A Timely Celebration!

by Friends of Letocetum Member - 12:00 on 30 July 2018

Where does the time go? You may have read our opening page that tells of The Friends of Letocetum as a group of volunteers first opening the doors of the museum at Wall to visitors. Well, that was ten years ago so we decided to have a celebration to mark the occasion.

Wall Village Hall was the perfect location to hold our afternoon buffet and where volunteers of the present met with people who had been involved with Letocetum over many years. We were delighted when we were able to talk with past volunteers and curators for English Heritage as well as archaeologists involved in various ‘digs’ including those in the 1970s.

Speeches were given to thank various people for their hard work over the years, and for those involved in the provision of food and refreshments of the day and the setting up of the hall. Thanks were also given by Tracy Williams, National Trust General Manager covering Letocetum.

The weather was very kind to us allowing everyone to walk around the site, museum and settlement in general, to take in the atmosphere and remember special times. Some people brought along records of their involvement at Wall that we will be able to add to our archive.

Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and we are very proud to have been able to mark our achievement. Here’s to the next ten!
